Just as with the “issue” of homosexual marriage last time around, this election the Right intends to get the public worked up about “illegals” in our midst. So remember, transnational corporations can NEVER be “good corporate citizens”. Transnationals can’t be “citizens” IN ANY SENSE. And who do you think is going to drive down your wages more… a bunch of Mexican baby-sitters and gardeners? Or Wal-Mart?

I don't want to reward those who enter our country illegally. But according to recent polls of Republicans, immigration is the third most important issue facing our nation, after the economy and the war! Why? They SAY it's because they're worried about wage pressure. But if wages was their real concern, there are better targets for their anger than Mexicans. The Rove-ian strategy at work here is to split the progressive American majority. That's the definition of a "wedge issue".
